Q: Why do we wrap the tefillin around the arm seven times? Five or six should be more than enough!
A: Tefillin is comparable to a wedding band; we wear them as a symbol of our special relationship with G-d. Under the wedding canopy seven benedictions are said; corresponding to these blessings we wrap the tefillin seven times our arms. We then proceed to wrap the tefillin around the finger, which corresponds to the actual wedding band. This symbolizes a reminder to us every morning that our relationship with G-d is so special, it is compared to marriage. We must look at our tefillin each and every morning, and remember this special relationship to remind us that we are indeed th chosen people. It also is a reminder to us so we will be more careful with our actions, because G-d is not only watching us all the time, but he is watching over us as one would watch over his/her spouse. Always keep in mind who you are, and who is watching.
